Dear Aam Aadmi Party,
Thanks to you I cannot even call myself "Aam Aadmi" as that would stand for a political affiliation. Regardless of the name I understand that you wanted to stand for a different kind of politics in India, which was supposed to be answerable to the people at large, not involved in corruption and development driven. However, possibly due to the media coverage, it seems that now that you are a full fledged political party and in-power, you are no different from the rest.
Lets take some specific points:
Thanks to you I cannot even call myself "Aam Aadmi" as that would stand for a political affiliation. Regardless of the name I understand that you wanted to stand for a different kind of politics in India, which was supposed to be answerable to the people at large, not involved in corruption and development driven. However, possibly due to the media coverage, it seems that now that you are a full fledged political party and in-power, you are no different from the rest.
Lets take some specific points:
- Law and Order:
- Your minister are so intoxicated with power, that if someone rejects to follow their order, you feel insulted and go all guns blazing on them, blatantly breaking any laws or rules that come in your way. I am not sure they can call themselves "Aam Aadmi" anymore. Now you justify that by saying you are trying to "correct" a system. How can you correct a system by completely breaking it, because what you will come up with will be another "system" and no system can be acceptable to each and every person. So the brand of civil disobedience against one's own government, constitution and country that you are promoting will go on to break your system too and any other that there will be. Do you want the country to head to chaos, just to fulfill your ego and ambitions?
- If you are really "Aam Aadmi" would you not believe in equality. So how is it that an SHO can affect an investigation, but a law Minister (Which to a lay man like me, is much more powerful) cant ?
- I am sure, your party, or any other political party, would not stand in favor of rapist. However would you accept that these crimes are as much a social issue as is a law and order issue? If you do, what are you doing for social education of the people? Also, now that you have publicly declared a war on police force (to correct them of course), and are trying to set up a parallel organization to take care of things (instead of being a part of police itself), how do you think that is affecting the morale of those in Delhi police who are not corrupt?
- Economy:
- First, is end of corruption your silver bullet for economic policy or is there something beyond that, for i know little that you party says on this matter.
- Are you pro open market, pro socialism, pro "swadeshi", what is your stand on it? You have opposed FDI in retail. Are you going to oppose FDI in all sectors, or retail only ? How do you plan to attract investment, do development etc?
- Are you pro "subsidy" or against it? For now you have fulfilled your manifesto promises via subsidy. What is your take on managing government expenditure on popular policies which results in growing deficit?
- Given that you have already declared most of top industrialist as "Chor", how do you want to build the trust to make businesses come wherever your government goes, or will we have another Singur in Delhi?
- Society:
- You want to regularize multiple slums and unregulated societies. But apart from recognizing them "legally", don't you think that doing so presents multiple socio-economical challenges. Like, there are slums in rather highly demanded locations and thereby economically very attractive (if legalized), but currently inhabited by the poor section of society. If legalized, don't you think it would further displace the poor out of these locations. Also, beyond that, given we do not have proper infrastructure support even in current "legal" societies, how do we plan to support the new societies that would be formed and from where will we fund all that (end corruption and...) ?
- What are your views on immigrants into Delhi? Do you want to get rid of them, or support them too? You said of providing "reservation" to local population in Delhi colleges. My understanding has always been that reservation trumps talent. So now talented youngsters who flock to Delhi for better education would be marginalized and will have to find education elsewhere. Is this what you want to achieve, or are ready to accept at least?
- Education and Health Care:
- Now we all know that you have promised to increase the number of schools and colleges in Delhi, and maybe you will. However my question is, how do you plan to manage the standard of education with increased volume. Where are you going to hire the teachers in the quantity needed and that too with good quality.
- Same question applies to hospital, you may build buildings and call them hospital, but how would you get quality (and not just quantity) doctors and nurses needed to provide the service.
- Foreign Policy and Defense
- These questions would have not applied, had you not have talked of contesting the national elections too. However now that you do, what is your view on our foreign policy? Should we go soft on Pakistan, or go on an all out war with them? Should we raise our voice in matters of different countries, or continue to be non-aligned? Should we have a mighty defense force, or enough only to march in streets of New Delhi on Republic and Independence day?
I am sure many of these questions may find an answer in your manifesto. Many you many have spoken about in some or other media interview. But the careless and restless that i am, i have been oblivious to those so far. So if you would please enlighten me, I would be most grateful.
Regards,
A Common Man (Possibly an Aam Aadmi)
